Tucker Field to sport new baseball videoboard in 2021 - GW Hatchet

Baseball’s home diamond, Tucker Field at Barcroft Park, will feature a new privately-funded videoboard to be completed prior to the 2021 season, according to a press release Friday.

Joe and Leslie Barmakian, the parents of graduate student utility player Steve Barmakian, led the funding and will have the family name visible on the new board, the release states. The videoboard will stand 40 feet tall by 32 feet wide and include a 576 square foot LED display, the release states.

The Barmakians said they are “grateful” for the positive influence head coach Gregg Ritchie and the baseball program have had on student-athletes, and they wanted to provide a gift that would benefit the program for years to come.

“We believe GW Baseball has the potential to win the A-10 Championship and to compete nationally,” the couple said in the release. “So, we’re hoping our gift will provide the technology for player instruction, the assistance for recruiting top athletes and increased player visibility, while allowing local and national businesses to support GW’s baseball program.”

The board will display live video, sponsorship content, updated statistics and player information, according to the release.

“This top-of-the-line videoboard will provide special excitement for the fans and student-athletes,” Ritchie said in the release. “It also allows us to improve in developmental techniques.”

The videoboard will be the second time in as many years the family of a current player served as leading donors of a facility upgrade for the squad. In 2018, Dave and Tam Fassnacht, the parents of then-junior infielder Nate Fassnacht, were lead donors and namesakes of the team’s clubhouse and training facility. Fassnacht forewent his final year of eligibility after being drafted by the Phillies in 2019.
