Rogue vs. Rogue Sport: Value and Utility

Nissan Rogue

The Rogue is Nissan’s best-selling model, competing with the Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4, and Ford Escape, among others. The model was completely redesigned for 2021 and benefited from stiffer structure and more safety systems, more power, and upgraded technology. Since it was all-new just last year, the Rogue is expected to continue into 2022 largely unchanged.

The Rogue is powered by a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine that makes 181 horsepower and 181 lb-ft, sufficient power for this class of vehicle. A continuously variable transmission (CVT) tweaked for better acceleration and fuel economy distributes power to either the front wheels (FWD) as standard or all four wheels (AWD) as an option. AWD models get a central hydraulic clutch that more quickly engages to send power to the rear wheels when needed.

The Nissan Rogue is as comfortable and quiet as ever, as well as the best-driving Rogue to date, an impressive combination of traits. Despite the plush ride, Nissan has made the Rogue more athletic, thanks in part to a multilink rear suspension. You won’t be marking the days until your next canyon run, but it’s capable of it.

For a feature-loaded Rogue, check out the new top-tier trim introduced for 2021, Rogue Platinum. This model includes a 12.3-inch digital gauge package, a 10.8-inch head-up display (HUD), and seats upholstered with diamond-quilted semi-aniline leather. The Platinum tier also gets wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless smartphone charging, and a premium Bose audio system. The Platinum trim’s ProPilot Assist with Navi-link uses map data to adjust the Rogue’s speed, such as for an upcoming incline or a bend in the highway.

Nissan Rogue Sport

The 2022 Nissan Rogue Sport is a subcompact crossover that sits below the brand’s popular Rogue SUV. Borrowing from the Rogue’s style is a good thing, as is the comfortable, smart cabin design with good space for people and things.

The 2.0-liter inline 4-cylinder engine provides 141 horsepower and 147 lb-ft of torque to the front wheels (standard) or all four wheels (AWD optional) through a CVT transmission. We find the Rogue Sport’s power to be adequate, but not more. The AWD system is best used for inclement weather on paved or graded roads, rather than serious off-roading.

A 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility is standard equipment, as are safety features like automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, blind-spot warning, and rear cross-traffic alert. Nissan’s ProPilot Assist safety suite is available on higher trim levels.

Similarities

Aside from the name and everything that comes with being born of the same brand, the Rogue and Rogue Sport are styled to look similar and provide many of the same features and functionalities.

2022 Nissan Rogue Advantages

The Rogue is more powerful, larger, and yet also more fuel-efficient.

2022 Nissan Rogue Sport Advantages

The Rogue Sport’s slightly smaller size is still highly capable while taking up less space and having a lower price.
