As 2021 opens, a mash-up of BYU sports is on the menu - Salt Lake Tribune

As my queen Taylor Swift said, “Are you ready for it?
You may not be aware, but we’re in/entering BYU Athletics busiest season EVER. So, buckle up and get ready.
Football is the only sport that’s finished up its season for the year — although, with all the players that declared for the draft, it’s still keeping our social media lit up. Because of the pandemic, the West Coast Conference opted to move most fall sports to the spring. Some ended up having more of a winter season.
So, here we are.
Men’s and women’s basketball are in the midst of their conference schedules; men’s and women’s cross country started back in October, but the WCC Championships are set to take place Feb. 24 and the NCAA Championship on March 15; men’s and women’s golf also started in the fall, but will finish up in April; and men’s and women’s swimming and diving are wrapping up their season this week after starting up at the end of October.
Then, there’s tennis, which started for the men last Saturday and starts for the women this Saturday; gymnastics opened up the season at the Rio Tinto Best of Utah meet at the start of the month; women’s volleyball starts on Tuesday; soccer is set to start its season Jan. 30.
Now let’s move on to the usual spring sports. Track and field started earlier this month; baseball and softball start their seasons next month; and men’s volleyball hasn’t released its 2021 schedule yet, but is expected to start soon.
That’s a lot. Feel free to take a deep breath. I know I got all turned around a couple of times just trying to make sure I got it all in there.
This pandemic has forced all of us to be more flexible, and BYU is no exception. Of course, there’s always the possibility of having games/matches postponed or canceled or even having the season canceled altogether. But if all these sports are able to finish their respective seasons, it could provide a historic moment for BYU Athletics.

More thoughts

• For the third consecutive Wednesday, I felt completely overwhelmed throughout the day. Two weeks ago, it was due to the attempted coup at the Capitol. Last week, it was because of now-former President Trump’s second impeachment. But yesterday, it was because I finally saw someone like me — a daughter of an immigrant and woman of color — take the second-highest office in our country. I’ll never forget any of these days, but yesterday’s inauguration will stand out leaps and bounds above the others.
• Like I mentioned above, there’s a lot going on with BYU sports. But I’m most interested to see how the volleyball teams and soccer will do. Even though I didn’t get to cover them a lot in their previous seasons, I really enjoyed them. Plus, they were all successful — so that makes it more fun, right?

agotada/agotado
Estoy agotada viendo todos los deportes que están en temporada, o están justo de empezar.
I’m exhausted watching all the sports that are in season, or about to start.
