LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech Athletics has announced the expansion of its sport psychology unit within its student-athlete health and wellness department with the hiring of Dr. Dayna Charbonneau, who has joined the staff as Director of Clinical and Sports Psychology.

Charbonneau, who arrives in Lubbock following nearly four years at West Virginia, will work under fellow sports psychologist Dr. Tyler Bradstreet, who has been promoted to Associate Athletics Director for Psychological Health and Performance as part of an expanded role.

"The mental health of our student-athletes will continue to be a top priority for us as an athletics department," Director of Athletics Kirby Hocutt said. "This is an area we believe we can continue to prioritize, and I believe we have two of the country's best sport psychologists now on staff in Dr. Bradstreet and Dr. Charbonneau."

Bradstreet and Charbonneau will continue to enhance Texas Tech's focus on mental wellness as a pivotal aspect of student-athlete healthcare and mental preparation as a competitive advantage.

At West Virginia, Charbonneau was responsible for individual and group therapy, crisis intervention, coach consultation, individual and team mental performance training and wellness programming with each of the Mountaineers' student-athletes. She served as the liaison between West Virginia Athletics and the Carruth Center for Psychological and Psychiatric Services. During her tenure, she was instrumental in developing mental health best practices for the entire athletics department.

"Dr. Charbonneau is an excellent addition to our staff as we continue to invest in this important area of mental health and performance," said Grant Stovall, Senior Associate Athletics Director for Student-Athlete Health and Wellness. "She brings significant experience in the field from her time at West Virginia and will be a valuable asset for our student-athletes."

A native of London, Ontario, Canada, Charbonneau completed her bachelor of arts degree with honors in 2008, specializing in psychology at the University of Western Ontario where she was also a member of the school's softball program. Following graduation, she attended the University of Indianapolis to complete her master's degree and doctorate degree in clinical psychology. While in Indianapolis, she completed clinical rotations in college counseling centers, a bariatric medical clinic and a partial hospitalization/intensive outpatient program for individuals with eating disorders.

Charbonneau completed her doctoral internship at Utah State's Counseling and Psychological Services where she focused her training on working with student-athletes and students with eating or body image concerns. Prior to her arrival at West Virginia, she also completed a post-doctoral residency within the Applied Sport Psychology Program in Student Health and Counseling Services at UC Davis.

Charbonneau is a member of the Association for Applied Sport Psychology and American Psychological Association, which includes the Society for Sport, Exercise and Performance Psychology.
