Lacrosse

In a wild game on Friday, Arizona State lacrosse fell just short in a top-15 matchup against Stanford. The Sun Devils fell 22-21 in overtime against the Cardinal.

Nevertheless, ASU proved its worth against a legitimate and lethal opponent in Stanford. At one point, the Sun Devils led by six goals in the second half but Stanford rallied back.

Offensively, Tim McCormack’s team was spurred by Carley Adams, Kerri Clayton, and Emily Glagolev, who combined for 20 points in the valiant effort.

ASU had a 12-10 lead at half and throughout much of the game, but a late push by the Cardinal proved to be the difference.

The Sun Devils are back in action on Sunday at 1 p.m. local time against Cal.

Gymnastics

Although ASU’s full team wasn’t participating, Hannah Scharf and Cairo Leonard-Baker represented the Sun Devils at the NCAA Championships on Friday.

On bars, Scharf registered a 9.8875. That was tied tied, allowing her to earn Second Team All-America honors.

As for Leonard-Baker, she competed in uneven bars and recorded a 9.8625 to finish 13th at nationals. Both athletes represented ASU well on the highest stage.

“Cairo and Hannah did a phenomenal job today,” Arizona State head coach Jay Santos said. “They hit their routines confidently as they have done all season and we couldn’t be more proud of their performances. It was the perfect way to cap off the 2021 season.”
