Cohlton Schultz and Zahid Valencia make USA Wrestling National Team
Current Sun Devil wrestler Cohlton Schultz and alumni Zahid Valencia earned spots on the 2021 USA Wrestling National Team following results at the Olympic Trials.
Schultz, an All-American, earned second place in the 130kg Greco-Roman bracket. He won his first two matches by decision to reach the finals. Schultz ultimately fell to Adam Coon.
Valencia had a bit more work to do. The former national champion had to battle through the loser’s side of the bracket to earn his spot. After losing to Bo Nickal in the semifinals on Friday, Valencia beat Nathan Jackson and Pat Downey to place third.
Only the top U.S. wrestler for each respective weight class gets to compete in the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, thus Schultz and Valencia will get the opportunity to be training partners for the top wrestler.
Water Polo
No. 6 Cal (6-4, 1-4 Pac-12) got the best of No. 4 Arizona State (11-5, 5-2) on Saturday. The Sun Devils, in their first road game of the season, lost 12-7.
The Golden Bears controlled the game through its first three periods. They jumped out to a four-score lead midway into the second period and never looked back.
The lead eventually ballooned to six, and despite Arizona State’s best efforts, it was out of hand for a comeback to mount.
Blaire McDowell and Bente Rogge combined for four goals. Cal limited ASU to 24 shots compared to its 34.
The two teams play again on Sunday at noon local time.

Volleyball
No. 16 Oregon (14-4) swept Arizona State volleyball (6-14) 3-0 (25-20, 25-15, 25-17) on Saturday in the final contest of the season.
The Ducks came out strong following the Sun Devils’ upset win on Thursday. Oregon won five of the final six points to close out the first set, then dominated the second and third sets from start to finish.
Iman Isanovic led the team with 10 kills. Senior Megan Beedie had seven kills and a .429 hitting percentage in her final game in maroon and gold.
Five of Arizona State’s six wins came in the final month of the season. Overall, Sanja Tomasevic’s program is in a good place for the quick turnaround back to a normal fall schedule.
Beedie was the lone senior on the team and the majority of the roster returning for next season were freshmen and sophomores.
