WATERLOO(KWWL)--Just eight years ago--the International Olympic Committee proposed to drop the sport of Wrestling from the Tokyo Olympics..that is until the legendary Dan Gable and other leaders in the wrestling community fought to get it back.
Olympic Gold Medalist Dan Gable said, "I think the transformation of why we almost lost Olympic wrestling and compared to where we are right now is we took things for granted for years because we were the first Olympic sport and so you don't take that away---BUT you have to stay up with what is current and we didn't even have anyone on the IOC in our sport ever. Now we do. We have don some good things but you know what just because we have done some good things does not mean we can sit back and relax and say we are going to be in there forever --again.. We have to work harder than ever."
Former Iowa Hawkeye Thomas Gilman qualified for Tokyo in Freestyle Wrestling at 57KG.
