Multi-Sport Athlete Glenn to Join Women's Basketball - WOU Athletics

MONMOUTH, Ore. -- Erika Glenn was a versatile athlete throughout her high school career at Ilwaco and will be joining the Western Oregon University women's basketball team to play for the Wolves this coming season as announced by head coach Holli Howard-Carpenter.

Glenn, a 5-foot-9 combo guard, was not just a standout basketball player for four years, but also competed in track and field, cross country, soccer and volleyball. During her time on the basketball court, Glenn began her high school career being named to the honorable mention team. She then added team MVP as a sophomore and then was named to the First Team All-State both sophomore and junior seasons. In addition, Glenn was tabbed First Team All-League, named the WIAA Athlete of the Week both sophomore and junior years and landed on the Second Team All-State Tournament Team as a junior. Glenn helped her team win the League Championship each season, surpassed 1,000 career points and capped her career being named the team MVP both as a sophomore and junior. She scored 38 points in a game during her career. Glenn was also part of the Hoopstars Family AAU Team.

On the track, Glenn placed fourth at state in the triple jump, seventh in the 200-meter, fifth in the 400-meter and sixth in the 1,600-meter relay. As a sophomore, she tallied the highest varsity points scored. In soccer, Glenn was the team MVP as a sophomore and was part of the cross country team that placed third at state her first season.

While her athlete accomplishments were certainly impressive, Glenn excelled in the classroom as well. She held a 4.0 GPA throughout her career, was part of the National Honors Society, AP US Government, Honors English, Pre-Calculus and Calculus, Physics and All-Academic recipient in all sports.

What coaches are saying about Glenn:

"We are extremely lucky to have Erika join our basketball family. She is, first and foremost, a competitor. Her athleticism, length and ability to score from anywhere on the floor makes her a tough matchup," Howard-Carpenter said. "She is a feisty defender that can really disrupt an offense with deflections and steals. Erika is flat out tough. She understands hard work and sacrifice and will be a great fit for our program. She is an exceptional student with a great personality, the type of person that makes everyone around her better."

"Erika is one of the best all-around basketball players I have coached in my 17 years at Ilwaco High School," Ilwaco head coach Ned Bittner said. "She can get to the basket, shoot the three, pull-up for a mid-range jumper and lock someone down on defense."

"Erika is fun, smart and a very coachable player. Our Hoopstars family is looking forward to watching Erika bring her rottweiler-like playing style and leadership to Coach Howard-Carpenter and the WOU women's basketball program," Hoopstars Family Coach Field Kline said.
