ATH: Porter and O'Brien Earn CAA Leadership And Sport Excellence Awards - The official website of Hofstra University Athletics

Hempstead, NY - Hofstra field hockey senior Frankie O'Brien and Pride women's soccer senior Lucy Porter the prestigious Colonial Athletic Association Leadership And Sport Excellence Award in their respective sports, it was announced today by the conference office.

The award mimics the Dean Ehlers Leadership Award, which is presented in men's and women's basketball. One student-athlete who represents the highest standards of teamwork, integrity, leadership, and sportsmanship in his or her academic and athletic achievements was selected in each of the other 19 sports sponsored by the Conference. 

The CAA's Faculty Athletic Representatives voted on the winners.

O'Brien holds a 3.61 GPA as an English & Secondary Education major. O'Brien was a four-time National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) National Academic Squad honoree and was named to the Hofstra University Dean's List four times in her academic career. She is currently the Hofstra Student-Athlete Advisory Committee President and serves on the CAA SAAC Voter Subcommittee.

On the field, O'Brien captained the Hofstra field hockey team for the second season in a row and tallied three points on one goal and one assist in 12 starts along the Hofstra defense. In her four-year career wearing the blue and gold of Hofstra, O'Brien has played in 67 games with 64 starts and totaled 31 points on 15 assists and eight goals.

A Community Health major, Porter compiled a 3.81 GPA while making the Hofstra Provost's list twice and earning the Dr. Sylvia J. Giallombardo Award in 2021 as the top female scholar-athlete at Hofstra. In addition, Porter made the prestigious Senior CLASS All-America first team and was one of three Hofstra women's soccer players to earn CoSIDA Academic All-District honors. Porter interned in the Radiology Department at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.

On the pitch, Porter had a stellar season as she led the CAA with 10 goals and earned first team All-America honors from the United Soccer Coaches, becoming the first Hofstra women's soccer player in program history to receive the honor. She was named the CAA Midfielder of the Year for the second consecutive season, was named All-CAA First Team for the third time in her career, and was named a semifinalist for the MAC Hermann Trophy as the top player in the nation. For her illustrious career, Porter has 98 points on 41 goals and 16 assists. Her 41 goals currently rank third in program history while her 98 points are also third.
