Arizona State was swept in three sets at Stanford on Friday afternoon in Palo Alto.
In the first set, ASU led by as many as five points but Stanford would rally and close out the opener on a 5-0 run.
The Sun Devils then dropped the next two sets by finals of 25-16, surrendering the quick sweep. Some of the few bright spots for ASU in the match were Iman Isanovic and Marta Levinska, who combined for 17 kills.
Shannon Shields also had 19 assists and seven digs. The Sun Devils will look for a redemption game on Sunday against Stanford, with the game at noon local time.
Lacrosse
Arizona State went on the road to Los Angeles on Friday and earned a hard-fought 20-9 victory over No. 20 USC.
It was the program’s first-ever win over a team ranked in the top-20, and it was the sixth time in the last two seasons that the Sun Devils have scored 20 goals.
There were a variety of contributors in the goal-scoring fest, too. Kerri Clayton finished with six goals and five assists, while Emily Glagolev had 7 points and Carley Adams had six points. Overall, eight different players had points in a total team effort.
ASU outscored the Trojans 9-3 over the final 30 minutes and went on to earn a huge victory in Southern California. The Devils now return home for a matchup with UC Davis on Sunday at 1 p.m. local time.
