Women’s Golf

Arizona State women’s golf finished tied for first in its home tournament of the PING/ASU Invitational at Papago Golf Club on Sunday.

The Sun Devils held the lead going into the final round, but a remarkable day three from the Oregon Ducks — - 9 score on round three — made the two teams share the glory at the top with -2 scores.

Linn Grant and Olivia Mehaffey guided the Sun Devils once again. Grant (-4) finished one shot behind Northwestern’s Kelly Sim, the tournament’s individual winner.

Mehaffey placed tied for ninth at -1. ASU’s Amanda Linner finished eighth with a -2 finish, but played the event as an individual.

The Sun Devils have one more tournament before the Pac-12 Championships. They’ll travel to Silicon Valley for the Silverado Showdown that starts on April 5.

Volleyball

Arizona State volleyball (5-13) was swept 3-0 (25-23, 27-25, 26-24) by Colorado (8-10) on Sunday, but it was as close it could be.

ASU controlled the first set for most of the early part of the match, having five- and three-point leads at different times.

However, Colorado took the set after an 8-3 run to close it out. The final two sets were neck-and-neck the entire time. Both sets were within three points for most of it. The ball happened to fall in Colorado’s favor more as the Buffaloes earned the win.

Iman Isanovic (12) and Marta Levinska (11) led the team in kills. Megan Beedie had three blocks and added eight kills. Ella Snyder had the setter role for most of it and Levinska also had the most digs (13).

Oregon comes to Tempe to close out the regular season for the Sun Devils on April 1 and 3.

Water Polo

Fourth-ranked Arizona State water polo (11-4, 5-1 Pac-12) completed the weekend sweep of No. 14 Indiana (8-8, 0-4) on Sunday with an 11-6 win.

The Sun Devils never trailed and their lead never wavered after Emma Fraser’s opening goal. Luca Petovary and Bente Rogge set the tone in the first half as they each scored a pair of goals, giving ASU a five-goal lead going into halftime.

The game never got closer than a five-point spread as the defense didn’t let up in the second half. Itzahiana Baca had a total of eight goals.

Arizona State takes it first road trip on April 3 and 4 when the team travels to Cal for a Pac-12 series.

Beach Volleyball

No. 18 Stanford (11-3, 5-2 Pac-12) and No. 14 Arizona (10-2, 3-1) got the better of Arizona State (4-7, 1-4) at the Pac-12 South Tournament on Sunday. The Sun Devils fell 4-1 in both matches.

Cierra Flood and Sarah Waters were the lone pairing to take a point against the Cardinal. However, Emily Anderson/Aleksandra Sochacka and Lila Bordis/Samantha Plaster pushed their courts to three sets, but ultimately fell.

The result was similar with the Wildcats. Court one was a Sun Devil win after Katelyn Carballo and Lexi Sweeney got a point in three sets.

Once again, Emily Anderson/Aleksandra Sochacka and Lila Bordis/Samantha Plaster got to the third set, as well as Flood and Waters.

Lacrosse

Tim McCormack’s team can’t seem to lose. Arizona State lacrosse (7-2, 4-1 Pac-12) extended its win streak to five following a 16-11 win over Colorado (3-5, 13) on Sunday.

Colorado scored four unanswered goals early to take a lead, but the Sun Devils responded and dominated from there. Arizona State evened the score heading into halftime and rode the momentum to a win.

The Sun Devils outscored the Buffaloes 10-5 in the second half. Kerri Clayton (5) and Carley Adams (4) led the way. Berkeley Bonneau made 11 saves in goal as well.

Arizona State heads on the road to Oregon and Colorado, the two teams it defeated this past weekend, on April 2 and 4.

Men’s Tennis

No. 11 USC (14-5, 2-1 Pac-12) was the better squad on Sunday. The Trojans beat No. 17 Arizona State (13-5, 2-2) 6-1.

ASU lost the doubles point, but made the most of the singles matches. Tim Ruehl took the point on court thee, which was the lone win for Arizona State.

However, Nathan Ponwith, Makey Rakotomalala and Andrea Bolla all fell in two sets 7-6, 7-6, thus if a few shots went the other way, the Sun Devils could’ve pulled off the upset.

Arizona State travels to the Bay Area for matches against Stanford and Cal on April 2 and 3.
