ORLANDO, Fla.— Hardwork is paying off for the Estela family.
“It wasn’t easy. I never imagined this. I dreamed about it but I never visualized it that it was going to be like this,” said John Estela, Jeovanny’s dad and boxing coach.
At 20-years-old Jeovanny Estela won his professional boxing debut.
"You don’t play boxing. You can play basketball. You can play football but you cant play boxing. You cant play to fight somebody this is your life on the line,” said Jeovanny Estela, a 20-year-old professional boxer.
Jeovanny has dedicated his life to the sport.
“I’m very passionate about the sport because this is what I’ve been doing my whole life. This is what I’ve wanted to do since I was a young kid so now that I have the opportunity I won’t let it pass away,” said Jeovanny.
That passion was passed down by the man who is in Jeovanny’s corner both in and out of the ring.
“It’s really hard, coach and dad to separate it,” said John.
A journey that started when Jeovanny was four.
“I used to work the bag myself in the house every afternoon and I noticed him paying attention,” said John.
“It got to a point where he would mark the bags and he would put x’s in tape and one would sat body and one would say head,” said Jeovanny.
“And I was like wow look at this kid he’s got talent,” said John.
That talent grew as Jeovanny became committed.
“That’s what put me in the position that I am in. The sacrifices when I was in 6th, 7th, 8th grade waking up at 5 o’clock in the morning, come out and go to the gym,” said Jeovanny.
A gym that shows his family’s support.
“Impact boxing is family owned. My wife is a big part of this whole thing because without her the success wouldn’t have been possible,” said John.
The best part about all of this success is the fact that Jeovanny is helping the future of the sport rise with him.
“The biggest advice I can give to them is keep pushing because the more you work the better the results will be,” said Jeovanny.
The same advice his mentor gave him.
“It’s really satisfactory to know that I told him that if he keeps working hard it would all fall in line and as you see it’s all falling in line,” said John.
