"Crokicurl" debuts as new winter sport in Wisconsin - WKOW

ALTOONA (WKOW) - A new winter sport that made its debut in Canada is making its way to Wisconsin.

Crokicurl is a combination of curling and crokinole, a Canadian board game where players flick chips toward different scoring regions on a board. It is played just like the board game, but on a large sheet of ice using curling stones instead of chips.

WQOW reports the rink in River Prairie is the first crokicurl court in the United States.

"We hope that it catches on," Altoona City Administrator Mike Golat said. "Much like Eau Claire is the epicenter of kubb, we hope to build a crokicurl culture here, and maybe get other people to put in different rinks, or maybe we can have more than one rink next year."

Golat said it took almost three weeks to prepare the 42-foot rink.
