Local sport bars gear up for Super Sunday amid pandemic - KTTC

ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) -- Super Sunday is this weekend, but with social distancing and limits on capacity in restaurants, it is sure to look different from years past.

Some local sports bars are choosing not to offer specials this year in anticipation of fewer customers, while others are hoping to make the most of it with their specials.

"We run happy hour all day long," said Broadway Bar & Pizza General Manager Cheri Moore. "That includes drink and food specials. Specials on tap beer and bottled beer as well."

"We're going to be running a carry-out special with our three pound wing bucket," said Brothers Bar & Grill Owner Kevin Smoot.

Both are continuing to observe COVID-19 cleaning guidelines and seating restrictions.

"We've been running through this whole pandemic and it's just normal for us to wear the masks, to be washing our hands excessively, the different chemicals we're using on our tables to help make sure everything stays clean," Smoot said. "The limited number of seating has been a huge one."

"It's really hard to predict what's going to happen with the Super Bowl," Moore said. "Like I said, I know for sure our regular customers, like our bar patrons will be here, but I'm not sure as much with other dine in people."

While neither business knows how many people will walk through their doors on game day, both are staying positive.

"This is usually an event that people would come out for but it's just as easy to sit at home and watch," Smoot said. "So that's why we're doing our wing buckets so if you don't feel comfortable coming down, which a lot of people still don't, they can bring our food to their house, watch the game and yell at their own TV."

"I'm a little worried we won't get as much, just because people are still scared about eating in, but it has been picking up and people are really excited about this Super Bowl," Moore said. "So I think we'll be okay, I think we'll be pretty busy."
